COULD ARSENAL BE PREPARING A TRIPLE TRANSFER SWOOP ON BARCELONA ?
Many years ago, Arsenal swooped for a young Barcelona player called Cesc Fabregas. He joined the Gunners and Arsene Wenger went as far as to build a team around him. For a while, it worked out nicely.
In recent years, however, it has been Barcelona who have been launching raids on Arsenal, signing players like Thierry Henry, Alex Song and the aforementioned Fabregas, who returned to his boyhood club.
It's been something of a give-take relationship, with Barcelona largely ending up the victors. But Arsenal may be about to turn the tables.
Arsenal may look to everyone on the outside to be a club that is on the slide. No trophies for the best part of a decade, high profile players leaving on a regular basis and crushing defeats to the likes of Manchester United and Bayern Munich exposing the gulf in class.
But thanks to some fine commercial dealings, the club has plenty of money in the bank and should they finish in the top four this season (admittedly, that's a big 'if') they'll be able to rebuild and pull together a decent squad.
This brings me to Sport Witness's claim that Arsenal could make not one, not two, but three signings from Barcelona this summer. The players in question are David Villa, Alexis Sanchez and Victor Valdes.
